Cablesformac.com.au is not a big company and we’re not in this game to make millions. In fact Cablesformac.com.au is a small home based business in Melbourne. My name is Chris and I am a Mac users, just like you. I started Cablesformac.com.au in 2009 to try and do my bit for the Australian Apple community by making it possible to purchase cables and adapters for Mac’s which are not normally available in Australia at reasonable prices with prompt delivery. FAQ:
Q: How do I know if my Mac has Mini DisplayPort?
A: Mini DisplayPort was introduced by Apple in 2009 as the new video standard on all Mac’s (introduction of the Unibody MacBook Pro). Mini DisplayPort offers a more compact version of DisplayPort which is quickly becoming the industry standard on most external monitors and display devices. DisplayPort offers higher resolution than HDMI.
Q: Will I need a separate Audio cable to connect sound to my HDMI TV?
A: This all depends on when your Mac was manufactured. Mac’s manufactured after April 2010 support audio through the Mini DisplayPort socket. Mac’s manufactured between 2009 and April 2010 do not support audio through Mini DisplayPort so you will require a separate audio cable. Note: Not all TV’s will support a separate audio in with a HDMI signal so you may need to connect it to a different audio device such as an AMP or stereo.
Q: How do I find out when my Mac was manufactured?
A: The best place to look is at the serial number
For example: W8937xxxxxx was built in 2009, week 37.
The first 2 characters identify the assembly plant — with “W8″ being China.
The third characters give the year
And the fourth/fifth gives the week of manufacture
